MORRISON, IL (AP) - The wife of a man accused in the 2008 killings of eight people in Illinois and Missouri has testified at his second murder trial.
The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports Holly Sheley took the stand in Whiteside County on Tuesday. Her husband, Nicholas Sheley, is charged with killing 93-year-old Russell Reed of Sterling. Holly Sheley told jurors about the couple's dealings with Reed and her husband's alleged drug use.
Earlier Tuesday a crime scene investigator from the Illinois State Police offered testimony. Opening statements were Monday. Prosecutors allege Sheley killed Reed in his home and stole his wallet and car. Sheley has pleaded not guilty.
Sheley already has been convicted in the murder of a Galesburg man and faces trials in six other deaths.
