MORRISON, IL (AP) - One of Nicholas Sheley's acquaintances has testified the accused spree killer had blood on his clothes the night a 93-year-old northern Illinois man was killed.
The (Sterling) Daily Gazette reports 27-year-old Amber Gonzales testified Wednesday at Sheley's Whiteside County trial. Sheley has pleaded not guilty to the murder of 93-year-old Russell Reed of Sterling. He is accused of killing eight people in Illinois and Missouri during 2008.
Gonzales testified she noticed Sheley had blood on his clothes when he visited her and her husband. She says Sheley then said, "I just got done killing somebody."
Sheley already has been sentenced to life in prison for the bludgeoning death of a Galesburg man. A convenience store clerk also testified Sheley had bloody clothes when he bought beer and cigarettes.
