Mellonie D. Jones and Dawn E. Fulks.
St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - One of two women charged in the June 2009 beating death of a man they smoked drugs with before killing him in the Kennedy Forest area of Forest Park has been ordered to serve twenty years in prison.
Dawn Fulks, 29 of St. Louis, was convicted by a jury of second degree murder, armed criminal action, and filing a false police report after claiming the victim, 26 year old Williard Payne of University City, tried to sexually assault her and her friend.
Police found that story to be a lie and charged both Fulks and her girlfriend, 22 year old Mellonie Jones who is scheduled to stand trial next month.
Fulks was ordered to complete a seven year prison term for a child abuse conviction from a year earlier, then begin serving the twenty year term handed down by Judge Robert Dierker in the murder case.
Authorities say Payne went to the area with the two women to smoke drugs when he was attacked and beaten to death. At one point, Payne tried to flee his attackers, however they caught up to him and continued the attack until leaving him on the ground where a passerby found the victim while driving in the park the following morning.
