St. Charles, Mo (KSDK) -- Drivers followed the advice of the Missouri Department of Transportation and used alternate routes instead of taking the Blanchette Bridge during the construction project.

MoDOT said there was a decrease in overall traffic on I-70 and higher volume on Route 370 and Route 364 during the Monday morning commute.

Construction crews are doing a major facelift on the westside of the bridge, so all traffic has been shifted to the eastbound lanes.

The main traffic backups were seen at the eastbound Route 364 exits at Route 141, I-270 and at the signal at Page and Schuetz. Signal timings were adjusted at Page and Schuetz from 7:30-8:05 a.m. to handle the peak at that signal. The City of St Charles also experienced a slight delay on Salt River Road accessing eastbound Route 370.
