St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Jurors took nearly three hours to deliberate before returning a guilty verdict against a homeless man charged with unlawful use of a weapon in a failed robbery attempt at a fast food restaurant.

35 year old Terry Lewis Madlock was originally charged with attempted robbery and armed criminal action in July 2010 after police say he armed himself with an ax and tried to rob the Jack in the Box restaurant in the 4200 block of South Kingshighway just after 8:00 a.m.

Madlock was indicted last year and charged with the lone felony of unlawful use of a weapon.  That's the charge the panel found Madlock guilty of late Thursday afternoon.

A police officer on patrol was told of the crime unfolding and went into the Jack in the Box where he ordered Madlock to disarm himself.

Madlock dropped the ax onto the counter and was immediately arrested by police in the restaurant.

More than a dozen patrons and employees were inside the Jack in the Box at the time, although no one was injured.

Madlock will be sentenced for the crime on December 21st by Judge Dennis Schaumann.
