St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - With the forecast calling for the possibility of severe weather this weekend, the Missouri Department of Transportation is warning motorists that work on eastbound I-64 in downtown St. Louis could be slowed or even delayed.
According to Andrew Gates, a MoDOT spokeswoman, crews are presently working to remove and replace the concrete driving surface on the I-64 double-deck structure.
Severe rainstorms are predicted for Sunday evening into Monday night. If crews cannot replace that concrete, MoDOT will only open one eastbound lane to traffic on Monday, even during the evening rush hour. Crews would have to close eastbound I-64 downtown following rush hour to complete the work, with the goal of reopening all lanes by 5 a.m. Tuesday.
If MoDOT cannot reopen all lanes of eastbound I-64 by Monday evening rush hour, drivers will be encouraged to avoid the area and use Jefferson Avenue as a detour to eastbound I-44 toward the Poplar Street Bridge.
