St. Louis ( KSDK ) -- A historic St. Louis home has been damaged by fire in the 1000 block of Grandview Place in western St. Louis.
The fire started near a fence. The wind whipped up the flames, causing them to spread to the balcony, the roof and eventually to the home next door before firefighters got it under control.
No one was hurt, but the people living there lost many of their possessions in a home that was built, literally, on St. Louis history. Many of the stone and wood building materials came from the 1904 World's Fair.
Homeowners Frederick Sweet and Rita Csapo-Sweet praised firefighters for controlling the blaze as quickly as they did.
