St. Charles, MO (KSDK) - The Missouri Department of Transportation announced Wednesday one section of the Blanchette Bridge will be blasted on Sunday, November 18, weather permitting.
The bridge will be completely closed from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. to blast one section of the steel truss on the westbound side of the Blanchette Bridge.
All eastbound traffic will be detoured off Interstate 70 at Route 94 at 10 a.m. and directed to Route 364.
All westbound traffic will be detoured off the highway at I-270.
Drivers are encouraged to avoid I-70 on Sunday during the closure.
When the area is secure, the bridge will be blasted and dropped into the river where it will be removed in pieces.
The eastbound side of the bridge will then be sweeped of debris before reopening.
Areas around the bridge will be closed, including the KATY Trail, Main Street, Bangert Island Conservation Area, and parts of the Riverwoods Trail.
This blast will not be visible from the riverfront, but will be visible from the Riverwoods Trail past the restricted blast zone.
A second blast is scheduled for after Thanksgiving.
