Jefferson County, MO (KSDK) - A Jefferson County mother suffered a horrific shock Wednesday afternoon when her car was stolen while her baby was in the backseat.
According to Captain Ralph Brown, a spokesman for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department, the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. at a gas station convenience store in the 2200 block of Old Missouri 21.
The child's mother, 25, told deputies she parked her Jeep Cherokee 12 to 15 feet from the store entrance and left the vehicle running while she ran inside to buy some items. When the woman left the store, her vehicle and baby were gone.
Brown said the suspect drove approximately two miles to the 2300 block of Romaine Creek, set the baby on the side of the road and drove off. A witness recovered the baby and called the sheriff's department.
The baby is in good condition.
The suspect was pulled over in the vehicle near Highway 141 and Highway 21. He was captured after a brief foot pursuit.
The suspect's name has not been released.
