Hostess St. Louis bakery closing due to strike
(NBC/KSDK) -- The makers of Wonder Bread, Twinkies and Hostess Cupcakes said it will close its doors permanently if striking workers don't return to work Tuesday.
If the Hostess Brands company shuts down like it is threatening, that means 18,000 people around the country will be out of work.
Hostess gave a 4pm deadline for the strike to end or else it will ask a US bankruptcy judge in White Plains, New York for permission to liquidate the entire company.
If the motion is granted, Hostess would begin to cease operations as soon as November 20.
The strike, which has been going on since last week, has already affected St. Louis. Hostess announced it was closing its bakery in north St. Louis, meaning 365 people are losing their jobs.
