St. Louis County, MO (KSDK) - Traffic was backed up on Interstate 64 following a police chase and crash.
The police pursuit ended just after 3 p.m. on Interstate 64 near Mason. The suspects were taken into custody by Lake St. Louis police.
No one was injured in the pursuit and crash.
According to Lake St. Louis Police Chief Michael Force, authorities have been investigating a series of ongoing thefts in the city and other venues.
On Friday afternoon, Force said police were notified that people matching the description of the suspects were at a local business trying to steal more goods. When police arrived on scene, the six suspects fled the scene in two different vehicles. The suspects had been in the process of assaulting a store employee.
One of the two fleeing vehicles struck a Lake St. Louis police car and all the suspects in that vehicle were apprehended. Everyone in that car was charged with felony stealing, strong arm robbery, assault on a law enforcement office, assault and property damage.
The second vehicle became disabled on I-64. The suspect in that car attempted to steal another vehicle from a motorist who was stopped in traffic. Police on the scene used a Taser to apprehend him.
