Benton, IL (KSDK) - Two citizens of Honduras were arraigned Friday for being in the United States illegally after they were previously removed by immigration officials.
Court documents state 29-year-old Oscar Rene Sanchez-Aguilar and 21-year-old Oscar Naun Torres-Hernandez were taken into custody on October 15 by an Illinois State Trooper at the direction of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents after a traffic stop on Interstate 57 in Effingham County.
During the traffic stop the trooper determined Sanchez-Aguilar and Torres-Hernandez were in the United States illegally.
If convicted, Sanchez-Aguilar could be sentenced to up to two years in prison, ordered to pay a $250,000 fine, and spend one year on supervised released.
Torres-Hernandez is facing up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.
Both are held without bond.
