St. Louis (KSDK) - A man accused of animal abuse has been charged.

Ron Jackson, 28, has been charged with felony animal abuse.

On September 21, 2012 Animal Control officers found a pitbull mix in a dumpster in the 6000 block of Emma Avenue with 10 gunshot wounds. The dog had also been strangled with an extension cord.

The dog was still alive and treated by veterinarians. One of the bullets was stuck in his spinal cord and caused rear limb paralysis.

People in the neighborhood called the brown and white dog "Murder," and Jackson had been heard telling someone he had a way to deal with Murder.

Court documents state at least one witness saw Jackson walking toward the alley where the dumpster the dog was found in was located, and then heard several gunshots, followed by a second round of shots.

A witness told authorities they saw Jackson holding a handgun and heard him say, "I took care of the dog."

Stray Rescue has renamed the dog "Optimus Prime," or OP for short. He makes his way around with a donated, custom-built cart and lives with Stray Rescue's founder, Randy Grim.
