O'Fallon, MO (KSDK) - An O'Fallon, Missouri couple says they are afraid to sleep in their own bedroom after they woke up to their neighbor standing over them.
Part of what has the victims worried is they aren't entirely sure on the details on what happened, since they were asleep while the suspect was allegedly committing his crimes.
According to one of the victims, who asked to remain anonymous, this incident happened late Saturday night or early Sunday morning. He lives with his girlfriend and his elderly mother near St. Matthew Avenue and Prince David Drive, not far from T.R. Hughes in O'Fallon.
He says he woke up to the sound of his girl friend talking, she was saying "who are you" and "what are you doing here."
The man says at first he thought he was dreaming but then he realized a man was standing over them, next to their bed.
He says he yelled, chased the man out of the house and called police.
Court records show police arrested their next door neighbor, 18-year-old Jacob Lee Roberts.
Roberts has been charged with felony burglary, stealing, and sexual misconduct.
The victims say they were told that last charge is for a crime against the girlfriend, and they believe it happened while she was sleeping.
"Well, she's quite stressed out right now you know. She won't let me leave the room unless she's with me and that's completely understandable. Our whole lives have completely changed with her, my mom and myself," said the man.
The victims say Roberts broke in through a small window they'd left unlocked because they felt perfectly safe in their neighborhood.
Now they're sleeping on the living room floor because they're not comfortable going back into their bedroom.
Roberts is held on a $75,000 bond.
