East St. Louis (KSDK) - Two people are dead and a third person was injured after a family argument on Thanksgiving day ended with a deadly shooting.
The shooting happened around 6:00 p.m. in the 700 block of N. 75th Street in East St. Louis.
Police say the shooting happened after an argument between a husband and wife. Police say that's when the husband pulled out a gun.
The couple's daughter, who is in her 40s was shot twice, but managed to get out of the home. She was able to call police. Because the police were not sure if the father was alive inside the home, the tactical team was called to respond to the scene. They waited several hours outside of the home before entering the house.
Once inside, they found the body of 66 year old Dorothy McCaskill on the first floor with multiple gunshot wounds. The estranged husband, 69 year old Bobby G. Stewart, was found on the second floor from what police believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
East St. Louis Police Chief Mike Floore said the couple had been married for 40 years, divorced and then recently got back together. The couples daughter said they had been fighting constantly since reuniting. Police had been called to the residence for minor disturbances before, but none had resulted in arrest.
