NEW YORK (AP) - NHL cancels games through December 14th and 2013 All-Star game in Columbus, Ohio.
Negotiations aimed at ending the NHL lockout broke off, with union head Donald Fehr saying Wednesday's talks produced "no movement" on the major issues.
Earlier, players gave management a new proposal that the union said left sides less than $40 million apart annually over a five-year contract.
But NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman immediately rejected the plan, saying "we're still far apart."
Fehr says that the players had moved more than halfway toward the owner's position with the latest proposal.
Thanksgiving was the 68th day of a lockout that already led to the cancellation of more than a quarter of the regular season.
