Jefferson City, MO (KSDK) - A 19-year-old southwestern Missouri man died in a traffic accident over the Thanksgiving holiday, the only such fatality during that period, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said Monday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Thanksgiving holiday period ran from 6 p.m. November 21 to 11:59 p.m. November 25.
The fatal accident occurred Wednesday, November 21 in Barry County. Authorities said Austin Turner drove off the left side of Route J and struck a tree, causing the car to catch fire.
Austin Turner, of Golden, Missouri, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The sole passenger in Austin Turner's car was wearing a seatbelt and suffered minor injuries.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported 350 traffic crashes and 140 injuries during the Thanksgiving holiday, and made 140 DWI arrests.
