St. Ann (KSDK) -- A driver hit speeds of nearly 100 mph early Wednesday before crashing his getaway car at Hanley Road and Interstate 70.
Police tell NewsChannel 5 an officer thought he may be a shoplifter because he was seen speeding from a St. Charles Walmart. They say he sped east on I-70, with a St. Ann policeman in pursuit, but when he tried to exit at Hanley Road, he smashed into a guardrail.
The driver jumped and fled, and is being sought.
Police have identified the suspect as 26-year-old Brandon Silver. They said he may have ran from police because he has a history of run-ins with the law from tampering to stealing vehicles.
Police found a ringing cell phone in the back seat of the vehicle. They answered it and spoke with the Silver's girlfriend. They are using information she provided to try and track him down. They said the car he was driving belongs to her.
No stolen items were found in the vehicle.
