In this handout image provided by NASA and released on August 8, 2012, are the first two full-resolution images of the Martian surface from the Navigation cameras on NASA's Curiosity rover, which are located on the rover's 'head' or mast. CNN - NASA's Mars Curiosity rover has apparently made a discovery "for the history books." But we'll have to wait to find out what it is.

According to NPR, the discovery came from soil analyzed on the rover's Sample Analysis at Mars (SAM), the rover's onboard chemistry lab.

Curiosity's chief scientist told NPR the data is "looking really good." They won't be ready to announce what Curiosity found for another several weeks. The scientists want to double check the results.
