St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - Police are searching for two men responsible for a terrifying home invasion.

It happened in the 4500 block of San Francisco in north St. Louis. Police say the men forced a family into their basement after shooting at one of them.

The victim says she just got home from work Tuesday around 6 p.m. She was there with her three young children when two men wearing masks knocked on the door. They said they were looking for someone. When she told them he didn't live there, they forced their way in and started robbing the place.

Her fiancé came home in the middle of it all. She says the men shot at him but missed.

Police say the family was forced into the basement. They escaped through a back door and called police.

The victim, who we are not identifying for her own safety, says she only had one concern.

"My initial reaction was take whatever, just don't hurt my kids. That's what I kept telling them, please don't shoot my kids. That's it," said the victim.

Her kids are okay and no one was injured.

The victim says the masked men got away with a cell phone, laptop, jewelry, an Xbox, and even clothing.

Police are asking for help finding the men. Anyone with information should call crime stoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
