Schleicher County, TX (KLST/CNN) - The Texas Attorney General's Office says it wants to seize polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs' 1,600 acre ranch.
Authorities placed a notice at the Yearning for Zion ranch near Eldorado, Texas. They say it marks the final chapter of a nearly five year effort to pursue widespread criminal misconduct charges.
Prosecutors say Jeffs and others sexually abused children at the ranch.
Authorities say when they placed the notice Wednesday they did not see or hear from anybody there.
"There was an attempt. They have an intercom system out there and I believe there was no response or the response they got was an answering service and no one came to the gate so they ended up taping it to the gate," said Sheriff David Doran.
The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints openly practices polygamy on the Yearning for Zion Ranch.
Sect members have denied that any sexual abuse takes place.
Warren Jeffs is in a Texas prison, serving a life sentence for sexual assault.
