Christmas gift collection for Trooper Deatherage's family

Madison County, Ill (KSDK) -- Several area police departments will be collecting Christmas gifts for the family of an Illinois state police trooper killed on duty.

Gifts for Trooper Kyle Deatherage's children can be dropped off at the Alton and Collinsville police departments and at the Madison County Sheriff's Department.  In Missouri, gifts can be dropped off at the Overland and Eureka police departments.  The Des Peres Department of Public Safety is also taking up a collection. Donations there should be made to that attention of Lt. Hall.

Deatherage is survived by his wife, Sarah, and two children, Kaylee, 4, and Camden, 10 months old.

He was struck by a semi during a traffic stop on Interstate 55 at milepost 62, just north of Litchfield on November 27, according Illinois state police.

Memorial contributions can be made to Scholarship Fund for his Children's Education or the Kyle W. Deatherage Criminal Justice Scholarship Fund at Triad High School.
