Pregnant woman, baby in good condition after being hit by car
Pine Lawn, MO (KSDK) - A pregnant woman is recovering at Barnes Jewish Hospital after being struck by a car Wednesday afternoon while waiting at a bus stop in Pine Lawn. The woman's unborn child was unharmed.
According to Pine Lawn Police Chief Rickey Collins, the accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday on northbound Jennings Station Road at Vetter Place. Police said the 22-year-old woman was waiting at a bus stop when a man drove over her and then hit a daycare, approximately 25 to 30 yards from the bus stop. Nobody was inside the building at the time. The daycare was no longer in use.
Collins said witnesses told police the man did not appear to slow down after hitting the woman. Another driver told police the man was driving erratically before the incident.
The woman, six weeks pregnant, underwent surgery for a broken pelvis and a broken leg. Her name has not been released. She remains in stable condition at the hospital.
Collins said his department will apply for warrants against the driver, whom police believe was impaired. Police did not find a Missouri driver's license on the man, but said he had a Guatemalan ID.
