St. Louis (KSDK) - Thieves are targeting Christmas decorations and dimming the holiday spirit in one south St. Louis neighborhood.

Lisa Kamper says someone stole an eight foot tall inflated snowman from her neighbor's yard sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning.

"We've done that as a tradition to decorate our lawn and our neighbors on the side of us for probably five or six years. So it's a little frustrating to wake up and the big snow man is gone," Kamper says.

Just a few blocks away, thieves hit a house on Tholozan. The owner says the thieves took a large deer decoration, Santa and Mrs. Claus statues, and a plywood Santa and sleigh they've had for 30 years.

Alderman Joe Vaccaro contacted us about this.

"It's a concern...these things are expensive," he says.

We're told these thefts started over the weekend and all occurred between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
"It is disturbing. Whether it's kids, whether it's people stealing it thinking they can make a couple of bucks off of it, stealing is stealing in every case," says Vaccaro. "It's the wrong thing. And if it's kids, and they're caught, they're going to have records for stealing."

Kamper says these thieves have stolen some of the Christmas spirit from the neighborhood. But she's hanging on to hers.

"Unfortunately you almost want to take down your decorations. I won't do that right now though. I don't want to do that," said Kamper.

But in the Christmas spirit, she does want whoever is doing this to stop and bring everyone their things back.

Another homeowner a few blocks away says thieves hit him too, but they didn't take Christmas decorations.

They took two concrete statues, and he says they took a bench and a wreath from a neighbor.
