St. Peters, MO (KSDK) - Police say a cry for attention caused a 22-year-old graduate student to fake terminal cancer.
Victoria Ann Marut of St. Peters, Missouri has been charged with felony forgery.
Police say while Marut was enrolled as a graduate student at Truman State she told people she had terminal lymphoma.
Authorities say she shaved her head to make people believe she was undergoing chemotherapy, and people started giving her gifts and donations.
Marut told investigators she faked the disease to get attention from her mother.
She was studying special education but is no longer enrolled in classes.
