Granite City, IL (KSDK)-- The Granite City Police Department has released the identity of a woman whose body was found early Saturday along the northbound lanes of Illinois Route 3 south of Niedringhaus Ave. 

Several passerby motorists found the body of 50 year old Shari L. Watts shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday.  Watts lived in the 900 block of East Airline Drive in East Alton, Illinois.

Major Jeff Connor, a spokesperson for the Granite City Police Department, says the accident may have taken place several hours before the discovery.  It's believed Watts was last seen Friday night in Brooklyn, seeking a ride home. 

The Granite City Police Department is asking anyone who has information about the death to call 618-877-6111, or Crime Stoppers at 866-371-TIPS (8477).
