St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - The defense is expected to continue presenting its side in the first degree murder trial of Rico Ricardo Paul, 20 of south St. Louis this morning.

Attorneys were interrupted Wednesday after a courtroom bailiff caught a woman in the court audience taking cellular phone photographs in the courtroom of Judge David Mason.

Court officials say the confiscated phone was in the possession of a woman whose connection to the trial was not immediately known.

Paul is charged with the May 2011 shooting death of 58 year old Paul Reiter, who served as circulation manager for the St. Louis American newspaper for more than two decades.

Reiter was gunned down in the backyard of his Dutchtown neighborhood home, after he encountered the defendant trying to break into a neighboring home.

Prosecutors say Paul was the burglar and fired the fatal shots while trying to escape the neighborhood.

Paul is also charged with attempted burglary and armed criminal action and was on probation for an unrelated crime when Reiter was gunned down.

Trial resumes later today.
