WILDWOOD, Mo. (KSDK) - These warm temperatures sure are nice this time of year, but not if you run a business that depends on the cold.
Hidden Valley Ski Resort in Wildwood just underwent a $2 million renovation. There are new slopes, new lifts and a revamped lodge, kitchen and bar area. The only thing missing is snow.
If the real stuff won't fall, crews need temperatures to stay around 25 degrees in order to use snow guns and cover the slopes with manmade powder.
Last year's season was cut short by warm weather and crews at Hidden Valley are hoping for more of a chill in the air this year.
"We actually did around 51,000 skier visits last year," said Bill Brandes. "I like to hit around 62,000. A couple of seasons ago we did hit 86,000, so it's going to fluctuate. And you know, the colder the air the quicker we can get started."
Brandes says the goal is for Hidden Valley to open on December 15, weather permitting.
