CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KSDK) - Surveillance video shows the commotion Thursday morning as several deer crashed into a busy area in Chesterfield.

Wildlife experts say new development in the area could cause the same thing to happen again.

The general manager of Kaldi's Coffeehouse on Chesterfield Airport Road says around 10:30 a.m. Thursday he heard a boom. He immediately ran outside and saw a deer hit a window.

The managers of UPS and a shoe store called The Motion Center nearby experienced the same thing.

The Motion Center actually caught the incident on surveillance video. Jim Hixson, the store's manager, says he noticed about four deer heading towards Interstate 64.

Chesterfield police say three deer were killed by cars. There was one reported car accident and two more vehicles including, a semi-truck, were slightly damaged.

Employees say they typically see deer but, never in the shopping center where there is a lot of traffic, people, and activity.

Dan Zarlenga with the Missouri Department of Conservation says deer are more noticeable now in the area for several reasons.

"First of all it's their mating season so they are on the move a lot more. They are thinking with their hormones instead of their heads so they are moving a lot more places where you don't normally see them. Secondly, there could be an issue with construction displacing them from areas where they used to live," said Zarlenga.
