St. Louis, MO (KSDK) - A St. Louis man classified as a prior and persistent offender has admitted stealing steel hooks used on trash dumpsters throughout the City of St. Louis.

36 year old Ladale Deangelow Lewis will be sentenced on January 31, 2013 after pleading guilty to a felony theft crime which was filed last May.

Investigators say Lewis and 19 year old Victoria Gibbs were caught with dozens of the hooks which are mounted on the trash bins to aid sanitation trucks to lift the huge dumpsters for emptying.

The steel hooks were a popular item to steal according to police since they could easily be disposed at area scrap metal yards for cash.

Lewis has been released to the supervision of the U.S. Marshals pending his sentencing hearing.  the case against Gibbs is still pending in St. Louis Circuit Court.
