ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Some of the most at-risk students in St. Louis enjoyed a holiday dinner Thursday night, all thanks to the inspiration of their teacher.

After learning that some of her students had never even heard of Santa Claus, Jamaa Learning Center teacher Danielle Sullivan decided to do something special this holiday for her students.

She started gathering donations online to buy gift baskets with hats gloves and school supplies.

On Thursday, with the help of a contractor from Sullivan's home town of Las Vegas, Jamaa hosted a dinner for students and their families.

Along with the gift baskets, the dinner helps to take some of the holiday pressures off of families in need.

"It takes a lot of pressure off of us to know that, even if we didn't have the money to purchase it, the kids still get a Christmas. Somehow, some way, they still got a Christmas. They're still able to be happy," said parent Franchasity Hall.

"It was just wonderful, I think it was awesome, they felt so special. Just, all I wanted was for them to feel as special and loved as I know that they are. And then today was wonderful, parents I didn't even know were coming up and saying what a great time they were having," said Sullivan.

Earlier Thursday, the students made holiday cards for kids at Children's Hospital as a way of giving back to the community.
