South St. Louis (KSDK) - Work continues this morning in efforts to get a train back on track, and on its way after a Thursday night incident involving a dozen cars on the locomotive.

Police responded to the derailment around 9:20 p.m Thursday and found all twelve of the cars involved upright, but off the actual rail.

The cars were hauling taconite, which are iron ore pellets used in a variety of metals.  The cargo was reportedly non hazardous and none of it was spilled.

The derailed cars stretched for more than a mile north of Interstate 44 and south of Manchester Road in the area of the 6200 block of Famous Avenue.

No injuries were reported.
