IMPERIAL, Mo. (KSDK) - Authorities in Jefferson County have made an arrest in a murder case after a woman's body was found in a wooded area in Imperial over the weekend.

Heather Beckley, 34, was found dead Sunday morning around 8:40 a.m. in the area of Butler Valley Drive and Antonia Valley Court. Investigators determined Beckley died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer, investigators identified 32-year-old Brian Smith as a suspect. Smith had been arrested early in the investigation on drug related charges.

Smith and Beckley had been acquaintances, Boyer said.

Brian Smith was charged with second-degree murder and remains incarcerated in the Jefferson County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond.
