BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - Belleville police are clarifying events that took place Tuesday near Union Elementary School.

Initially, police said they received a report about a suspicious teen wearing all black clothing carrying a rifle, pistol, and knife. The school was placed on lockdown and the area was searched.

Police determined there was never a threat to students or staff at the school.

On Friday, police released additional details regarding the incident.

Capt. Donald Sax says the teen was playing in a wooded area that was not on school property but was visible from the school building,

The person who made the original report to police had stated on Tuesday he had punched the teen, but police have determined that never happened.

Capt. Sax says the reporting person also said he had chased the teen and that the teen was pointing guns at the school, but both of those statements were false.

Police continue to investigate this incident.
