CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A southeast Missouri man has been arrested in the abduction of a man and his girlfriend.

The Southeast Missourian reported that the suspect is accused of repeatedly striking the boyfriend after an argument outside an Oran business.

The Scott County Sheriff's Department says the suspect then forced the alleged victims into the girlfriend's vehicle and drove them toward Morley.

Sheriff Rick Walter says that along the way, the suspect twice stopped the vehicle to beat the man. Ultimately, the suspect left the boyfriend lying in the roadway unconscious while he forced the woman to drive him home and released her.

The woman returned to help her boyfriend. But the suspect followed her and beat the man more. The woman ultimately sought medical help for her boyfriend and summoned authorities.
