SAINT LOUIS (KSDK) - There's a new alert about the drought-starved Mississippi River.

The barge industry is warning that river commerce could essentially come to a halt as early as next week in an area south of St. Louis.

The Coast Guard says they are confident the nation's largest waterway will remain open.
