FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. (KSDK) - A head-on collision Saturday night left one person dead and two others seriously injured, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said.

According to state police, the accident occurred just before midnight. A westbound SUV crossed the centerline of Route AT, east of Route M, and slammed into an eastbound SUV.

Jo Ann Gray, the 56-year-old driver of the eastbound SUV, was seriously injured and later pronounced dead at a St. Louis hospital on Sunday morning.

Gray's husband was a passenger in the vehicle and was seriously hurt.  The other driver involved remains  hospitalized in serious condition.

There was no immediate explanation as to why the other driver crossed the centerline. No charges have been filed in the incident.

Originally, the Highway Patrol reported that Mr. Gray had perished in the crash, when in fact he survived, and his wife had died in the accident.
