ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The Maplewood fire chief has is allowing us to share a special photo with you.
The photo shows several local firefighters with one of the survivors of the Webster, New York firefighter shooting.
The man in the middle is a firefighter, Joseph Hofstetter, and the firefighters from Maplewood wanted to go to New York to meet him.
Hoffstetter is considered a hero in Webster because he radioed back to other firefighters during the shooting, telling them not to come to the scene, and likely saved more lives.
He was called to the fire scene on Christmas Eve. Investigators say a man intentionally set his New York home on fire so he could ambush firefighters.
Two were killed and three others hurt in that shooting.
The firefighters were especially drawn to this story because of Ryan Hummert. They were on the fire truck when Hummert was shot and killed on the job back in 2008.
The firefighters say that was such a sad and difficult time, but they wanted to make the 800 mile journey to show their support.
