BRECKENRIDGE HILLS, Mo. (KSDK) - Beginning Monday, investigators began taking new steps to try to find the mother of the infant found abandoned in the hallway of a St. Louis County apartment building last Friday.

Police still haven't figured out how the three-month-old child ended up there since his mother, an East St. Louis native, has no ties to that part of town.

Even though relatives said she was seen by friends of the family Friday in East St. Louis, police explained they aren't even sure 30-year-old Ebony Jackson ever made it to Missouri from Oklahoma City, where she now lives with her baby and his father. That man is currently in the St. Louis area awaiting the results of a paternity test so he can get his son back from the state. Police confirm that he had nothing to do with the child being abandoned or Jackson's disappearance.

They told NewsChannel 5 about how important it is to them to track down her car, which is a white 2004 Mitsubishi Galant with Colorado license plates. Detectives are going through surveillance video from across the area hoping to spot it. Also, they say the car had a GPS tracking system on it that was installed by the dealer. So, police are working with the St. Louis County prosecutor's office to get a court order to have the GPS turned on.

"I believe that it will be our biggest lead if somebody actually spots the vehicle. It's a hard thing to do to find somebody, to track somebody down, and at this point with the complete lack of information that we have it makes it even more frustrating," said Det. Sgt. Jeff Heisse.

As of Monday, Jackson is listed in a national database, so if she turns up anywhere in the country, police here will be notified.
