TEHBES, Ill. (KSDK) - Shippers are calling on the Army Corps of Engineers to release more water into the Mississippi River or face the prospect of barge traffic coming to a halt.
Right now, the water levels in the Mississippi are historically low. As a result, the Corps and Coast Guard are blasting rocks and debris downstream from St. Louis.
The river is currently passable, but shippers say the blasting may not be enough to keep it that way and more water needs to be released into the river.
Lawmakers say that's unlikely to happen without a court room battle.
