ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KSDK) - Parents and students will gather at St. Elizabeth Academy Wednesday evening to discuss the school's impending closure at the end of the spring term.

The school community received the heartbreaking news Tuesday. Declining enrollment has been cited as the main reason for the closure.

In its heyday, St. Elizabeth Academy attracted 500-plus female students. Enrollment has since dropped to a little more than 130.

Superintendent George Henry of the archdiocese said his office will help to find other Catholic schools for the students.

Girls from 14 countries and 40 zip codes across the region have attended St. Elizabeth Academy in its 130-year history.

St. Elizabeth Academy is a private, Catholic school operated by the Sisters of the Most Precious Blood.
