JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon has capped a daylong inaugural celebration by twirling his wife to "The Missouri Waltz."
Nixon wore a black tie and tuxedo as first lady Georganne Nixon danced with him in a floor-length turquoise gown during Monday night's traditional inaugural ball in the Capitol.
The governor and first lady waltzed for about a minute on top of the bronze seal of the state of Missouri before motioning for other recently inaugurated executives to join them. Scores of other couples soon also began dancing.
Nixon was sworn in to a second term earlier Monday.
The governor's inaugural ball is open to the public and attracts well over a thousand people. It's a chance for Democrats and Republicans to celebrate together before getting down to work.
