Detroit, Michigan (Detroit Free Press) - Detroit Police investigators found a casket stolen from a Detroit cemetery on Monday, but the body of the 93-year-old man inside is still missing.

A Detroit Police source said the man's 48-year-old son is in custody after he was found at 7 a.m. today in a white van at an east-side gas station with the empty casket in the back.

The man reportedly told family members he took the body Monday morning in order to resurrect his father. Today, he told investigators he just found the empty casket and denied knowing anything about his missing father, according to the source.

A woman who identified herself as the office manager of Gethsemane Cemetery on Gratiot at Conner told the Free Press Monday that she could not comment.

The police source said the man's funeral was held Saturday but his body was being held in the Gethsemane mausoleum because the ground was too wet for burial.

Witnesses saw a van pull up to the mausoleum at Gethsemane Monday morning before the casket and body were discovered missing. Police were in the process of obtaining a search warrant for the son's home on the east side Monday afternoon when family members broke in his door. Neither the son nor the casket and the father's body was inside, according to the source.
