St. Louis, MO (KSDK)- For the first time we hear from those close to Tatiana McNeil.
Police say her body was discovered earlier this week in North St. Louis. Her toddler, who was believed to be missing, was found safe Thursday night.
While police are still trying to crack the case, family and friends are mourning the loss of the single mother of a seven-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl.
NewsChannel 5 spoke to one of Tatiana's best friends on Friday.
Latrecia Greene describes her as a good person who always had a positive outlook no matter what was handed to her. She says the 27-year-old had no job, no place to live, and was constantly worried about her children. She says Tatiana was troubled and had been trying to get back on the right path.
Her body was discovered Tuesday afternoon in a secluded area near the 9200 block of Riverview Drive. Police believe her body had been there for about a week. They think she was murdered because police say there was trauma to her body.
Latrecia says she used to speak to Tatiana all the time and knew something wasn't right because she hadn't heard from her since Thanksgiving.
"I am so confused because I am still shocked by her death. I still don't believe she is gone and I am not going to believe it until we put her in the ground," said Latrecia.
Tatiana's children are staying with family members.
