South St. Louis (KSDK) - A 62 year old man is in police custody after authorities say the man shot his way through the front door of a home early this morning.

The incident unfolded around 1:40 a.m today at the home in the 3700 block of Meramec Avenue.

Authorities say the unidentified suspect is known to the people living at the home.  The man went to the door and was refused entry.  That's when police say the man began shooting through the door, and kicked it in to gain entry.

Two people inside the home, 1 29 year old woman and a 34 year old man fled out the back door of the home, while another 29 year old woman struggled with the man inside the house in an attempt to get hold of the man's gun.  That woman suffered several head lacerations and an injured hand in the scuffle.

Police arrived a short time later and apprehended the man as he tried leaving the home.

Two infant children were also inside the home at the time but were not injured according to police.  No names have been released.
