ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Twice a week they arrive with tools in hand to tackle a to-do list.
"We're putting in a railing," explains Mike Wind, a Rebuilding Together St. Louis volunteer.
Not their own, or their wives, but a that of a complete stranger.
"Oh my gosh, it is like tremendous! I can't even tell you how much I appreciate it," says Terri Abbott, a homeowner getting a few repairs.
They are projects big and small that allow someone like Abbott to stay in her home.
"Well, I have MS, so it's hard to get down the steps to do my laundry," Abbott points out.
So this handyman squad has swooped in to help. It is a group of about twelve volunteers with Rebuilding Together St. Louis.
A team known as Rebuilding Together Express, that head out to help low income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly or disabled.
"What we focus on mostly is safety and security for the homeowner," Wind adds.
Of course as these men pick up their tools, they also hammer home the importance of helping other.
And although they don't get a penny for their work, they know they get something priceless in return.
"I ask for prayers," Wind says.
