ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Following Stan Musial's passing, a conversation began. What about naming the new Mississippi River Bridge after the beloved baseball player?

Stan Musial already has a statue in St. Louis named after him, and if federal and state lawmakers get their way, a new bridge will also carry the name of the St. Louis Cardinal great.

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill of Missouri and fellow Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois are proposing legislation Wednesday that would dub the new bridge the Stan Musial Memorial Bridge. The bridge carrying Interstate 70 traffic opens in 2014.

Two Missouri state senators, Eric Schmitt and John Lamping, introduced legislation Tuesday to name the bridge for Musial.

Since it extends through both Missouri and Illinois, lawmakers in each state would have to pass legislation on a name.

So, do you want this named after Stan the Man? Or have any other ideas? Make it happen by contacting your state rep or state senator.

Portions of an Associated Press article were used in this story.
