ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KSDK) - The Guns 'N Hoses Boxing Association donated $285,000 to The BackStoppers on Wednesday, money raised during their 26th annual Budweiser Guns 'N Hoses boxing event, which took place last fall at the Scottrade Center.
Founded in 1959, BackStoppers helps families of first responders who die in the line of duty by providing money for emergency expenses, and arranging to pay bills, mortgages, debts and college costs.
The family of David Stokes, president of the Guns 'N Hoses Boxing Association, donated an additional $100,000 to BackStoppers, bringing the total to $385,000.
The Budweiser Guns 'N Hoses event has raised more than $4 million for families of first responders over its history.
The Gun 'N Hoses Boxing Association also announced Wednesday that St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese has been named to its board of directors. Freese has been involved with the organization since 2008.
