SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KSDK) - A push is being made by a popular popcorn company for Hasbro to consider popcorn token to be considered as the new Monopoly piece.
Jolly Time Pop Corn has created an online petition to get popcorn added to the mix.
Earlier this month Hasbro launched a "Save Your Token" campaign to retire one of the following tokens: race car, iron, Scottie dog, wheelbarrow, shoe, top hat, thimble, or battle ship.
Fans can vote until February 5 for the one they want to keep. The one with the fewest votes will be booted.
The replacement token is also taking votes. Fans can choose a toy robot, helicopter, cat, guitar, or diamond ring.
Jolly Time is pushing for a popcorn token because they believe popcorn has become part of the Monopoly experience, with many snacking while they play.
Garry Smith, CEO of Jolly Time, wrote a letter to Hasbro President and CEO Brian Goldner, saying in part, "Say it's not too late. Monopoly is fun. Popcorn is fun. The two must join forces for future generations of game night players."
