Near Festus (KSDK)--Sunday night a father and son had to take refuge on their car's roof after they got stuck in a creek. It happened on Boyce Lane near Festus.
Firefighters with the Jefferson R-7 Fire Protection District say the call came in - from the two occupants around 7:20pm. They told authorities they had accidentally driven off into Plattin Creek.
Assistant Fire Chief Mark Earls says when they arrived the 4-door sedan was sitting in several feet of water and the father and son were both sitting on top of the car.
Earls says it only took 15 minutes for the firefighters to get the occupants to dry land.
"It was probably four feet from the concrete bridge, we took a ground ladder off of the truck, spread it out and sent a rescuer out to the victims we put life jackets on them and they walked their way across the ladder out of the water," says Earls.
He says this same incident happens a few times a year in this same spot, but thankfully there have been no serious accidents.
